The Archville Fire Department is located at the northeast corner of Route 9 and Union Street. It has been around since 1907, when neighbors in Archville and Scarborough built a tower and stocked it with buckets. This station covers the westernmost part of the town of Mount Pleasant, bordered to the north by Briarcliff Manor and to the south by Sleepy Hollow. The firehouse is located at Arch Hill, a section of the Albany Post Road known for its steep curve, its slipperiness in winter and its accidents. The 20-person department still has its vintage 1907 hand-pumper fire truck, which is brought out for parades and other events.
