Reports: RFK. Jr. Sued by Mary Kennedy's Brother; Court Docs Sealed

Legal dispute comes while preparations under way for funeral.

Thomas Richardson, brother to the late Mary Kennedy, has filed suit against estranged husband Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. in state court in White Plains, multiple media outlets reported Friday. The lawsuit was filed yesterday and was not publicly searchable earlier on Friday. By the time basic information about the case appeared in the Westchester County Clerk's records, a motion had been granted to seal its detailed documents. The seal order was given Friday by Judge Joan Lefkowitz, records show. While the contents of the lawsuit are not known because of the seal order, Kennedy told The Associated Press Friday that the matter was "over" (click here for its story). Meanwhile, media outlets reported that Mary Kennedy had recently been sued by …

Go Green Before Selling

Going green can often help sell a home more quickly.

Many households still tend to shy away from adopting green living habits for fear they’ll be too hard, time-consuming, or expensive. In reality, there are many green habits that are easy, inexpensive, and will help you sell your home faster. Cutting down on energy usage is often a great way to save money. Do you know that many buyers today will ask a seller how much they pay each month on their utilities? Some might even go so far as to ask for copies of the homeowners utility bills. In order to make this often large amount of money seem more reasonable, going green can help. Consider “greening” up your appliances. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, getting rid of old and outdated appliances can save thousands of dollars per…

Opinion: A Routine Hospital Visit Could Turn into a Struggle for Survival

The following editorial was written by Briarcliff High School student Nick Poulton.

My stays at the hospital have been few and far between. During my rare visits, I was in-and-out, leaving with either a cast on my left leg or assurance that I do not have appendicitis. Every year, millions of Americans and citizens of other developed nations go to the hospital with minor ailments, but unlike me, they end up in a struggle for their lives. Hospitals throughout the developed world are being plagued by hospital-acquired bacterial infections. However, funding is woefully inadequate to even begin to tackle this gargantuan problem. Augmenting the problem is the fact that hospitals limit the information that they reveal regarding hospital-acquired bacterial infections, even though these infections are the third leading cause of …

Car Club Dedicates 'Road Run' to Sullivan Family

The 200-mile trip is scheduled for Saturday morning.

Members of the car club where Thomas Sullivan served as events director will ride this weekend in memory of him and his family. Originally dubbed the 'Fun Run,' the New York Z Car Club renamed Saturday's rain-or-shine event to the Sullivan Family Memorial Road Run Around the Mighty Hudson River. Proceeds from T-shirts—marking the event will go to Thomas Sullivan, Jr., the lone survivor of the fatal blaze. It destroyed the family's Carmel home, killing the Larchmont police captain, his wife and teenage daughters May 1. Drivers will start the ride in Cortlandt Manor, head southbound to the Bronx and make several stops before wrapping up with lunch in Garrison. Thomas, Jr. and his grandfather are slated to attend. Click here for details on …

Readers' Choice Winner: Good Food

Briarcliff Manor's Good Food voted best Memorial Day caterer.

Congratulations to Briarcliff Manor's Good Food for earning the most votes in this week's Readers' Choice poll! The Pleasantville Road business is owned and operated by John Chambal, a career-long catering industry veteran. "Everything is all-natural," he told Patch when Good Food first opened last summer. Chambal brings fresh specials to the restaurant every day, like today's Jamaican jerk sandwich with mango slaw on a whole wheat sourdough bun, "that I make fresh," he said. The Memorial Day weekend menu is still in the works, but Chambal said it will include a variety of traditional dishes from veggie burgers and "Texas-style ribs" to sides like corn-on-the-cob, grilled vegetables and watermelon, as well as original dishes like chili …

NY Medical College Employees Allegedly Stole, Sold Materials

The following is from Westchester County Police. It does not indicate a conviction.

Westchester County Police have arrested seven New York Medical College employees and charged them with swiping metal materials from the campus and selling them as scrap to a local recycling company. The men, arrested Wednesday and Thursday, are facing charges of grand larceny in the third degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree. Both counts are felonies; bail was set at $10,000 by Mount Pleasant Town Court. Police said the arrest of a college employee could follow. The thefts occurred at the Valhalla campus over the course of about four years and totalled around $37,000, authorities said. Among the items stolen were steel cages, copper wire and plumbing parts.
