JM - That's right!! The uber-liberal LoHud would be correct. Right-sizing piggishly rich benefitRead More and pension programs mean give-ups by those receiving them. You don't have to be a math wiz to get the numbers on this. If you pay NOTHING toward your health benefits and now I ask you to pay 10%, you are giving up some income. Most Americans in the PRIVATE sector would do anything to work for a company that pays 90% of the cost of their healthcare benefit costs and gives them a piggishly rich pension. The pension needs to be terminated, as many companies have done, and converted to a 401(k) like all the rest of us have in the REAL world.
jeff meyer April 22, 2014 at 06:28 pm
NYP, Most Americans in the private sector would be better served if they were unionized. DecentRead More health care and a DBP pension are the results of a union job. That is why the JETBLUE pilots voted to unionize today according to the Wall Street Journal. In the REAL world workers should organize and negotiate in the collective bargaining process. There is strength in organizing. JM Tuckahoe, NY
sawyer1952@aol.com April 23, 2014 at 09:25 am
Perhaps everyone should reread this article without predjudice. The union workers know that payingRead More for health care is a given BUT look at the salary increases - 0%, 0%, 2% and 2% - this means that workers will be getting paid LESS in order to cover their health benefits. A salary drop of 6% at least. ALl the union wants is fair wage for fair work. A 4% increase over 4 years and a 10% reduction for benefits doesn't make sense.

That Newsmax article constantly says this is a way to circumvent the Constitution. But since theRead More Constitution grants states the right to award their EC votes any way they want, this is perfectly legal. A state could decide to award its EC votes based on a contest. It should come as no surprise that the Liberal Journal News was able to convince some Liberal JudgeRead More to stand with them on this. With that said, I have not looked at even a page of the Journal News or LoHud.com in many years. It's uber-Liberal trash journalism. They're running a business at the Journal News (owned by Gannett). If enough Conservatives and NRA members stopped reading their publications and stopped advertising their businesses in their publications they might find that they didn't have enough money to pay expensive lawyers to turn peoples privacy and Constitutional rights out into the streets. Perhaps the Journal News (or the Patch, god forbid) might write an article, with a local focus, on the percentage of crime in this area that is perpetrated with and without a licensed firearm. Anecdotally, between 75% and 80% of murders nationwide are committed by previously convicted felons. Due to their status, these felons would be prohibited from licensing and owning a firearm. Plus, all data indicates that the more difficult it is to obtain a firearm and/or a permit, the more illegal guns there are and the higher the gun-related crime rate goes. Prohibition didn't work either.
