Black Bear Spotted in Briarcliff, Ossining

A Quinn Road resident reported spotting a black bear in a neighbor's front yard Sunday.

At least one black bear has been reportedly seen in Briarcliff Manor and Ossining, according to both police departments.

Susan Zetkov Lubin told Patch she phoned in a sighting to Briarcliff Manor Police Sunday morning at about 8:55 a.m.

"I saw a black bear on Quinn Road in Briarcliff walk into my neighbor's front yard," she said.

Police said they went to the area to search for the bear, but weren't able to find any trace of it. Witnesses told police the bear fled into the adjacent wooded area.

Briarcliff Police received a second call reporting another sighting at 8:46 p.m. Sunday.

This time, police said, the bear was seen near South of the Border restaurant on Route 9 in Ossining.

The Ossining Police Department also issued an alert this morning after receiving a report of a sighting.

The alert reads, "A small bear has been seen in the south end of the village. Please secure your garbage, pets and bird feeders at night."
