P'ville Photographer Captures 9/11 Reaction in NYC

Chad Kraus captured the emotion of Union Square on 9/11/01.

Chad Kraus moved to Pleasantville about 10 years ago after he got married.

A decade and three children, as well as the birth of Chad David Kraus Photography, later, the man behind the lens reflected on the sole photography class he took at Westchester Community College in 2001.

"When I took my class that Monday night before 9/11, the instructor said, 'Whatever you do, wherever you go, take your camera with you,'" he recalled.

And he did.

"The next day I brought my camera with me into the city. It was probably the first time I had my camera with me in years," Kraus revealed. "And, of course, 9/11 happened and I ran into a store and bought a bunch of film. I ended up taking a bunch of photos from Union Square."

Above are a sampling of the photographs Kraus took on Sept. 11, 2001.

"Most of the shots I took were of people's faces," he said. "I still feel they are pretty chilling."
