Coming Soon: Pleasantville Emergency Alert System

After communication was difficult during Sandy, the village is looking for more ways to reach out to residents.

As part of its efforts to better prepare for superstorms like Sandy, the Village of Pleasantville will soon be asking residents to sign up for its new emergency alert system.

"We recently signed a contract with a company called CodeRED, which will allow us to improve our communications to you, either by telephone, text or by email in the event of emergencies," Mayor Peter Scherer shared at the June 27 Board of Trustees meeting.

Scherer said a mailer from the village will soon be sent out asking residents to provide the best ways to reach them in case of emergency, whether it be by email, text message, cell phone or a landline.

"That will give us the maximum chance" to make contact during emergencies, Scherer explained.

During Sandy, when many residents were without power, landline communication wasn't an option.

"Being in touch with people when power was out was a hard thing to do," the Mayor said.

He encouraged residents to be on the lookout for the village's survey.

Signing up, Scherer said, is "an important thing to do."
