Apply Now: Briarcliff's 'Fair and Affordable' Condos

The development at 445 North State Rd. is beginning to accept applications.

The state and county-supported condominium and commercial development on Briarcliff Manor's North State Road has started to advertise its 14 two-bedroom units.

Signage at 445 North State Rd. shows the two-bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom units will be sold for $223,000 apiece.

The units were built at no cost to the village, though it did have to alter its zoning code for the site to allow for both a mix of commercial and residential.

Families with income in the 80 percent or below area median income (AMI) range for the county will be eligible for the units.

The units will apply to the 750 Westchester County is required to implement by 2016 across 31 communities, including Briarcliff Manor, as part of a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) settlement.

In Federal Monitor "report cards" released by the county this week, an "unadopted plan" calls for about 140 total affordable housing units in the village.

Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino blasted the issuance of the report cards at a press conference this week; a move Westchester County Board of Legislators Chairman Ken Jenkins (D-Yonkers) later reprimanded in a press statement.

Said Jenkins, "Fair and affordable housing will be part of Westchester’s shining future, whether the County Executive likes it or not."
