Obama Confirms: Osama bin Laden Killed in Battle

The president signed off on the attack yesterday afternoon.

Osama bin Laden, the al Qaida leader behind the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2011, was confirmed dead by United States President Barack Obama on Sunday night.

In a live address to the nation, Obama stated a U.S. intelligence group attacked the compound in Pakistan where bin Laden was believed to be hiding earlier that day.

According to a report from the Huffington Post, A small team of U.S. troops, aided by two helicopters and a predator drone, carried out the mission, though bin Laden was ultimately killed by a fatal gunshot to the head.

In a statement release by Obama, he said, "The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our effort to defeat al Qaida."

Obama confirmed the U.S. took bin Laden's body into custody. He added no U.S. soldiers were injured during the operation.
