Local Women Honored at NY Senate Ceremony

Pleasantville and Briarcliff 'Women of Distinction' received recognition from New York Sen. Greg Ball Sunday.

Two extraordinary local women—one from Pleasantville and the second from Briarcliff Manor—were among an elite group of 22 honored a ceremony hosted by New York Sen. Greg Ball (R,C,I — Patterson) Sunday.

On behalf of the Village, I was happy to attend to honor her and the work of the Tina Shaina Gambino Memorial Foundation.

Among them were Pleasantville's Janice Gambino and Briarcliff Manor's Nikki Metzger.

Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer said he nominated Gambino for the distinction and supported the Gambino family at the ceremony.

"On behalf of the Village, I was happy to attend to honor her and the work of the Tina Shaina Gambino Memorial Foundation," he said in an email.

Recent Briarcliff High School graduate Metzger was recognized for her efforts in raising funds for Erythromelalgia research.

"The Women of Distinction Ceremony was a project I launched in recognition of Women’s History Month and inspired by the accomplished and outstanding women I have had the privilege of collaborating with through my current tenure serving the people of the 40th Senate District," Ball said in a statement. "The diversity and depth of their work speaks to the amount of time and dedication each has volunteered on behalf of and in support of a simple truth; that all change is local. Each took it upon herself to respond to some compelling community need. These women did not wait or idle when the opportunity for real change presented itself. Instead, each used her own unique talents and skills to respond to an issue or challenge in her community that merited action."
