A 38-year-old Bedford man is accused of burglarizing a neighbor's home while naked, Bedford Police said.

Lt. Melvin Padilla said that on Aug. 19, at around 1:30 a.m., a female homeowner on Greenwich Road awoke on her couch to discover a silhouette of a naked man, whom she initially thought was her husband. After she realized that the individual was a stranger, police said, she screamed, ran upstairs and notified her husband before the matter was reported.

The suspect, Rene Sandoval, is accused of fleeing the home. Bedford Police, along with the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, proceeded to investigate. Sandoval, who police said lives in a neighboring cottage, was found and brought to police headquarters in Bedford Hills. He reportedly confessed to the crime.

Sandoval was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, public lewdness and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument. The latter charge is because he is accused of possessing a fraudulent driver's license and Social Security ID. He was subsequently arraigned in Bedford Town Court and transferred to the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla. His next court date is on Sept. 5, according to jail records.

Sandoval is also suspected of being in the United States illegally and had a detainer placed, according to The Journal News.
