An unlucky strike ignited the fire at Elant at Brandywine Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Briarcliff Manor last night, Briarcliff Manor Fire Department Chief Michael King confirmed to Patch today.
"It was a lighting strike from the storm that past through earlier in the day," he stated.
The fire engulfed a condemned maintenance building on the Sleepy Hollow Road property and involved several of the region's fire departments.
Once the blaze was put out last night, officials determined the building would have to be demolished, which began at about 1 a.m.
