Gilmartin Elevated to Pleasantville Police Sergeant [VIDEO]

The former police officer's promotion was unanimously approved by the board Monday.

The continued to transform Monday night as longtime Police Officer Kevin Gilmartin was promoted to the position of sergeant.

Gilmartin's appointment fills a vacancy among the department's administration, following Erik Grutzner's  two months ago.

"In many respects, the Pleasantville Police Department is the face of the village," said Chief of Police Richard Love at Monday's board of trustees meeting. "In reality, enforcing laws is only a minute part of what we do."

Love said Gilmartin has been a member of the Pleasantville Police Department since Nov. 10, 2003.

"He has been a hardworking and compassionate officer with an outstanding commitment to service," Love said. "I believe now Sergeant Gilmartin's dedication and skill, and the knowledge he possesses, will be a refreshing addition to the administration of this department."

Gilmartin's promotion was made effective—with a unanimous board vote—as of June 11. His annual salary is set at $105,272.

Among the other recent changes to the police department, Juan Garcia in October. The department has also welcomed two new police officers since October:  and .

"Sergeant Gilmartin understands the vision and course this administration is headed," said Love, "and brings with him innovative ideas to help propel this department into the future."
