The family of Jane Shakman, an avid bicyclist in Briarcliff Manor on Sunday, has asked the county not to perform an autopsy.
While Shakman, 62, spoke with emergency responders after the accident about head and leg injuries, her cause of death remains unknown.
"The death certificate says 'undetermined circumstances due to religious objections,'" a Westchester Medical Examiner representative said Friday. "The family objected to an autopsy being done due to religious beliefs."
Shakman passed away at Westchester Medical Center in the morning hours of Monday, July 9.
Chief Norman Campion the anticipated autopsy results would help the village and Westchester County District Attorney determine whether to bring further charges against the 26-year-old driver who allegedly hit Shakman.
The driver, a Briarcliff Manor woman, was arrested at the scene after police determined she was driving with a suspended driver's license in an uninspected vehicle.
Campion was not immediately available to comment Friday about the case.
Shakman was remembered today by friends and family at a wake in the village.
In addition to bicycling, Shakman was also passionate about animals, as a frequent volunteer.
