VIDEO: Pleasantville HS Commemorates Local Heroes

Pleasantville High School students host Memorial Day and veterans' recognition ceremony.

started a new tradition this year by hosting a special Memorial Day assembly.

Students led the ceremony that included comments from Principal Dawn Bartz and Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer.

Barrett Rosenbaum spoke about the history of Memorial Day, while other students read the names of gold star graduates of the high school and the names of the local veterans who were honored in person at the ceremony Monday.

Audience members were also treated by students Jack Butler, Dylan Franks and Jacob Nemec to a short documentary created at 's Media Arts Lab. The film featured three local veterans who spoke candidly about their wartime experiences.

The high school band performed the Marine Corps Hymn and the Camarata choir sang the national anthem in recognition of the holiday and the local veterans, who were celebrated at a reception following the ceremony.
