Photos: Pleasantville Scouts' Annual Pinewood Derby

Local scouts took part in an annual racing tradition.

Seventy homemade race cars were put to the test during the annual Pleasantville Pinewood Derby, hosted by Pack 15.

"There is definitely a science to making it go fast," said Marielise Watts, who has organized the traditional event for the last few years.

The 70 cars raced down a six-lane track in the gymnasium on March 18 in groups based on the Cub Scout ranks.

The top three finishers from each level will compete in a districtwide run-off in the Mohican District on Sunday, April 14 in White Plains.

"We do have a very dedicated history," said Watts. "Last year, a Pleasantville boy won the district race."
