Video: Canines Cool Off at Westchester Pool
The annual end-of-summer tradition drew hundreds of dogs to Anthony F. Veteran Park in Ardsley Sunday.
After serving locals all-summer-long, Greenburgh's Anthony F. Veteran Park opened up its two pools to man's best friend Sunday.
The annual Dog Swim, in existence for a decade, has been run by non-profit organization Friends of East Rumbrook Dog Park for the past five years.
"It's a great event," said Trudy Holand, president of the Friends. "We always have a really good turnout."
Today's temperatures in the 80s drew about 200 canines from around Westchester County and beyond to the pools for a few hours of swimming and games.
This year also drew 10 vendors to the park—the highest number yet.
"Every year it grows," Holand said.
Ultimately, the organization hopes to use the money raised at its fundraisers like the Dog Swim to build a shelter at the Hartsdale-based East Rumbrook Dog Park. The shelter, Holand said, will give its dog members relief from hot sun and rain.
Coming up next month, the East Rumbrook Dog Park will be hosting its 'Howl-o-Ween' costume party, where dogs are invited to dress up and compete for costume prizes at the park. The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
