Why go: All Summer Reading Program participants are invited to a celebration to mark the end of summer Friday afternoon. There will be pizza, a scavenger hunt, crafts and a raffle. Why go: Jacob Burns' "Movies for Kids (and their Families)" series continues this weekend with the 1986 Care Bears' classic centering around a good vs. evil theme. The film is 76-minutes-long and rated G. Tickets can be purchased in advance here.

Why go: Free school supplies, while they last—parents must have a child with them. This project is about giving, empowering children and families across America and promoting the importance of education. Let there not be a child without the tools for a good education.
Children's Chess ClubWhere/When: Mount Pleasant Public Library on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 10 to 11 a.m.
Why go: Kids grades one to four can participate in a morning of chess lessons and playing at the library.
Teatown Lake Reservation on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m.
Why go: Do snakes have a bad reputation? That's what Teatown is arguing this weekend at a special program all about the slithery reptiles. Register in advance by calling 762-2912 ext. 110.
